Severn Meadows - for Solo Soprano and SATB a cappella

An evocative a cappella setting of Ivor Gurney's words to his song Severn Meadows, likely written in the first world war trenches in 1917. Commissioned in 2022 for Cantores Chamber Choir, this new, hauntingly beautiful setting captures the poet's longing for home, transporting the audience to the English countryside while the words tug at the heartstrings. A solo soprano line is weaved with broad, lush harmonies to create a memorable work, offering a rewarding challenge to intermediate-advanced choirs.
