Laudate Coeli Dominum

Johann Adolf Hasse (born in Bergedorf, Germany on March 25, 1699 and died in Venice on December 16,1783) spent the majority of his mature life as a composer, alternating frequently between Dresden, Venice, and Vienna. This edition of his Laudate Coeli Dominum is based upon a hand-copied score by an unknown copyist. The piece begins with a bass solo proclaiming the words "praise the Lord from the heavens", repeated immediately by the choir. Each subsequent phrase is first sung by the bass, and then answered by the choir, ending with the words from Psalm 97:3 "the Lord has made his salvation known. He has revealed His justice."
