Hark! I Hear the Harps Eternal - Cello and Piano

This collection of 3 hymns for cello and piano span a range of styles, all appropriate for worship or concert contexts. Duane Funderburk has masterfully crafted these arrangements specifically to take advantage of the rich, yet versatile, character of the cello. His piano accompaniments are tasteful and artistic, creating a wonderful dialogue between the two instruments. The cello parts are not included in the book but are available separately, JH-2241.
1. I SING THE MIGHTY POWER OF GOD - This familiar hymn text is used with the FOREST GREEN English tune, which is well-suited for the lyrical cello lines. The variety of musical changes in this arrangement attempt to portray the beauty and uniqueness of God's creation.
2. HARK! I HEAR THE HARPS ETERNAL - This is one of the great traditional spirituals, full of hope and energy as it anticipates the joys of reaching our eternal home in heaven. Through the sometimes "gritty articulations," as well as in the soaring lines of the cello, this arrangement attempts to emulate the anticipation of someday reaching heaven's shores. Think of this as a musical description of that celebration.
3. THERE IS A FOUNTAIN - Based on an old Gospel Song, this arrangement could be a part of a communion observance, or a time of reflection and prayer. The simple, clear melody is intentionally preserved in both the cello and piano parts throughout.
