Product Description
Pursuing an education in violin and composition at the Moscow Conservatory, Paul Juon (1872-1940) completed his studies in Berlin and went on to train a generation of composers including Hans Chemin-Petit and Stefan Wolpe. He published his FIVE PIECES FOR STRING ORCHESTRA, Op. 16, in 1901. Uniquely for a string orchestra work, the piece includes ad libitum parts for triangle and tambourine. It endures as a prime example of opulent, late Romantic string writing. The titles of the movements are: 1. Kleine Ballade 2. Schlummerlied 3. Terzen: Intermezzo 4. Elegie 5. Tanz. Instrumentation: String Orchestra (8-8-5-5-5 in set): Perc(2 opt.).
