Fantaisie brillante on themes from Gounod's Faust by Wieniawski was written in 1870. The composer treated the work as a dramatic scene. Thus the whole consists of an introduction, recitative, lyrical aria, dramatic episode and ballet finale. The virtuoso-technical aspect of the work accounts for its continuing freshness and vitality.
